Our Mission: Welcome to Urban Nature Preschool where our mission is to promote children’s connection to the natural world and the love of learning through play and exploration. We strive to honor each child’s uniqueness and contribution to our school family, and we work hard to create an inclusive environment for all families.
Our Philosophy: By using a Nature based, Child-centered approach we see children as our inspiration for developing our curriculum. We seek to celebrate the whole child by addressing all of their needs and interests, cognitive, social emotional and physical. We believe all children have the capacity to become independent, responsible, confident, sympathetic and good stewards of the Earth. Teachers facilitate an environment that encourages independent play through exploration as well as provide encouragement, support, and questions to encourage divergent thinking and learning. We see our school as an integrated learning community, where all work together for the best interest of the children.
Our Curriculum: With a Nature-based, Child-centered curriculum, learning happens outdoors on a daily basis the majority of the time, unless the weather is dangerous, such as lightning or severe cold. The classroom is also a nature rich environment. Teachers support and facilitate learning through individualized activities geared toward the children’s developmental needs and interests, but children have the power to choose their learning path according to their natural curiosities, interests and passions.
